Purpose and Philosophy
Purpose: Faith School for Young Children is established as a ministry to Faith United Methodist Church. The purpose of the program is to provide opportunities that meet the needs of early childhood development in a Christian atmosphere and to expand the world of the child to include friends in the community as well as home and church. Under the guidance of qualified teachers the program will provide a curriculum that considers the developmental needs of each child and emphasizes growth in all areas; physical, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, and social
The student teacher/ratio will be kept at a low level. Enrollment shall be open to any child 18 months to 5 years of age. Children of every race, religion and cultural heritage are welcome at Faith School for Young Children. The primary criteria for decisions made concerning Faith School for Young Children will be what is best for the children, individually and collectively.
Philosophy At FSYC:
We want to provide an enriched, loving environment where the children feel comfortable. Our school will stress the joy of living each day and the wonder of each child's individuality.
We want to educate the whole child: spiritually, physically, emotionally, intellectually and socially, by providing the child with successful learning experiences in these areas.
We want to ensure the child's future success in other learning situations by helping each child to develop a positive attitude about him/herself and about learning. We will provide the child with beginning academic experiences in small groups that will progress at the child's own pace.
We want to foster a sense of respect in the child for parents, staff, peers, personal belongings and property.
We want to help each child gain a degree of independence so that he/she will be comfortable in our Preschool setting and in other out-of-home environments.
We will stress language development in our program so that each child will be better able to express his/her own thoughts and feelings more easily.
We will incorporate all of the cultures represented in our classroom into our curriculum.
We will help each child accept responsibility for his/her own actions and to understand the consequences of these actions. We will do this by communicating to each child the value of and reasons behind the rules of our school.
We will keep accurate records of each child's progress in our program and keep parents informed of their child's progress.
We will provide parents with information about our program by parent conferences with staff, parent meetings, parent newsletters, and an open policy which fosters the free exchange of ideas and information.
We will recognize parent's rights and be available to listen to any concerns a parent might have.
As always "Together We Are Better"
